Moss (born February 13th, 1977) is an ex- American football player. He was an
American footballer who played 14 seasons in the National Football League (NFL)
and was a part of the Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders as well as the New
England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. Alongside Jerry Rice, he is widely
regarded as being the greatest wide receiver of all time. Moss holds the NFL
single-year touchdown reception record (23 in 2007) and also the first NFL single
season touchdown record (17 in 1998). He is also second on the NFL all-time
regular season touchdown receptions list , with 156. Moss was well-known for
his ability to secure an elusive catch and the term "mossed" has been
incorporated into football's lexicon. After his career in football began, he
was hired as a studio announcer at ESPN for the Sunday NFL Countdown program
and Monday Night Countdown. Moss was born at Rand, West Virginia. He attended
DuPont High School. It was one of two schools that was later amalgamated into
Riverside High School. There Moss excelled in football, basketball, baseball
track, as well as other sports. Randy was also on the school's debate team.
Moss led the DuPont Panthers football team to two consecutive state championships
in 1992, 1993. Moss was an outstanding wide receiver, but also played free
safety as well as returned punts and kickoffs, and was the team's kicker and
punter. In 1994, he was honoured with the Kennedy Award as the West Virginia
Football Player of the Year. Parade magazine named him to their All-American
high school football teams in the year 1995. In 2009 they named him as one of
the 50 most outstanding high school footballers of all time.
